[ It's not often she receives a package at work, so the sight of the box has her quirking a brow in question. And maybe a little light suspicion, as she wouldn't put it past some demon with more anti-angel sentiment to send her something that would either harm her or be used to prank her.
But it's small and innocuous enough to have her finally opening it. When she sees the magician's hat, the gears are already turning in her head, her mind wandering to the only person associated with such items before she verifies it with his note.
She doesn't know what John Constantine is up to, but she'll go along with it. So it's later on when she's home that she finds a spot in one of the rooms she's been using as an office to set the hat down and wait. And only feels minimally stupid about it. ]
[A few minutes pass before there's a low popping sound like a child's toy pistol going off. A small white paw pokes out of the hat, patting around the edge before a rabbit's head pops out. Pink eyes blink up at Chloe from beneath floppy ears. Pulling itself out of the hat, Mange rises up on his back legs to peer up at her with open curiosity.]
Who're you? Cute bird, aren'tcha? Got an carrots? [The rough accent is a mirror of John's Liverpool one, male as well. Except coming from a perfectly normal white magician's rabbit.] M'name is Mange. Friend of John's.
[He offers her a tiny paw in greeting. Trixie would have lost her mind over something like Mange, probably tried to dress him up.]
[ White rabbit. Right. Of course. Staring at Mange as if she were in some kind of twilight zone, she reaches out to shake his... paw. ]
Hi. Chloe. Are you — [ How to word this? ] — John mailed you to me. For some reason I'm still not entirely sure about. And no, I don't have any carrots.
[If a bunny could show disappointment, Mange does at being told there are no carrots. Giving one of her fingers a shake, the rabbit lowers itself back to all four feet.]
He's mentioned the name before. [The rabbit's head cocks to take her in before itching behind one ear with his backfoot.] He didn't mail me, he mailed the hat. See, it leads back to Hellblazer if you're a rabbit. Like a tunnel? If you need me, you yell down in the hat. Got one at Gabe's place and a couple others too.
Lucifer told John you wouldn't let it go until you had a way to ensure everything was fine. So, there you go.
[ John wasn't exactly the type to keep up the 'rabbit in a hat' shtick if it didn't come with other tricks, after all. Weirdly enough, it makes more sense to know he'd sent this creature than talk to her himself. She purses her lips as she considers that, not sure how she feels about it. ]
So I'm supposed to ask you about him instead, huh? No offense, but how do I know you're not just going to tell me what I want to hear so I leave him alone?
[If a rabbit could shrug, Mange would do so. What happens instead is that his head bobs a little and ears flop more.]
What'd you expect from a street wizard? Lucky I didn't pop out of a trick coin.
[Little nose wriggling, Mange rises to his back feet again to look around her place that he can from where she put the hat. Furry spies were a thing.]
Fuck if I know. He said go see the cute blonde bird, so here I am. He's working on stuff and things. Can't leave his store right now. Least he isn't dancing around naked covered in blood still. That's a lot of bouncing stuff I don't like.
[ She lets out a small, quiet breath as she watches the strange rabbit examine her room. Later on she'll try to get back in touch with John, whenever he's feeling amenable to it, but for now, it has the affect he was looking for and assuages her nerves, if only slightly. ]
If I'm going to be calling on you, I guess I should have carrots for next time.
Carrots, broccoli, celery. Lettuce if you put sugary sprinkles on it. Green ones.
[Couldn't just be a normal rabbit, could he? Hopping a step or two over, he puts a paw on her foot, head tilted to look up to her. A nose wriggle and the bunny shakes his head.]
He likes you, but everyone he loves or likes dies because of him. They die in agony, hating him for what he brings with him. Including me. But he's left alive, to go on.
[The rabbit pats her foot as if to give comfort.] He kills what he loves. Doesn't mean to, but he does. The ghosts are always with him. Standing around, staring at him. Don't take it personally.
[ The soft touch at her foot has her glancing back down at Mange. Was she seriously being comforted by a rabbit? Or a person who somehow got turned into a rabbit, she suspects. This whole thing is bizarre.
She moves to take a seat on the edge of the bed so she's not towering over him. ]
Yeah, he was pretty clear about that whole thing. I don't know what's happened to him, but it's really... taken its toll on him. I just wish there was — I don't know. Something I could do. Even the Devil has friends.

There's nothing you can do. He's beyond help.
[Those small bunny paws try to hold her hand, earnest pink eyes staring up into hers.]
Don't give him something else to lose. Be his friend from a distance. A safe distance. That's the best you can do.
